If you get a ticket, get off the hook!

If you have received a seat belt ticket in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, or anywhere in Ontario then you are facing a fine of...... and two demerit points if you are driver of the vehicle, or if a passenger in the vehicle you are operating under the age of 16 is not wearing a seatbelt, or is not in a child restraint seat.

 

There are exemptions for not wearing a seat belt that you may be able to use for a defence. There is also the possibility that the officer simply made an error in believing that you did not have your seatbelt properly attached.

You can also be issued with a ticket if your seat belt is being worn, but it is either worn "improperly" or if is not adjusted correctly.

 

As a certified collision reconstructionist who has investigated thousands of accidents from minor collisions to serious injury and even fatal collisions in the Windsor area, I strongly urge everyone to be properly seat belted into their vehicles.
